Leibniz Fast Calculation Competition 2025
3. Subject of the Competition
The competition focuses on innovations in molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, especially diffusion at interfaces. Projects should propose novel methods and technologies to enhance MD simulation speed and accuracy. This international competition fosters innovation, idea sharing, and collaboration among researchers.
4. Period of Participation
- Registration opens: Until September 15th, 2025, 23:59 CET
- Working phase starts: September 16th, 2025
- Submission deadline: January 20th, 2026, 23:59 CET
5. Eligibility
Open to researchers, scientists, and computational enthusiasts worldwide working on MD simulations. Submissions from contributors funded by SFB 1368 (DFG project number 394563137) are not eligible.
- Only individual or team submissions allowed.
- Teams must register via a team leader.
- All members must consent to the terms.
- Participants from countries restricted by law may be excluded.
6. Participation and Acceptance of Terms
Registration via web form is mandatory. By registering, participants accept these terms. All submissions must be independently created and properly cite any external sources.
Participants agree to:
- Store data on the organiser’s internal server.
- Publish results (data) on orkg.org for broader accessibility.
- License all data under CC BY SA 4.0.
- Comply with FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).
7. Determination of the Winner
Submissions will be evaluated based on:
- Accuracy
- Computational speed
- Scalability
- Innovation
- Compliance with FAIR principles
A jury will select the winners. Notification will be sent via email, and prize acceptance must be confirmed within four weeks.
8. Prizes and Conditions
1st Prize
- Certificate of Excellence
- 3-month stay as visiting researcher at an SFB sub-project
- Monthly allowance: €1300
- Travel allowance per DAAD table
- Open Access publication cost coverage with the subproject leader
2nd Prize
- Certificate of Excellence
- 1-month stay as visiting researcher
- €1300 allowance
- Travel reimbursement per DAAD table
3rd Prize
- Certificate of Excellence
Visiting Researcher Conditions
- Subject to successful visa (if required)
- Valid health, accident, and liability insurance is required in Germany
- Participants must comply with German tax and social security laws
9. Award Ceremony
Details will be announced later. The 1st prize winner may present their solution. Travel and accommodation will be covered for German participants. International participants can join via web meeting.

Storage Duration
Contact data will be deleted after the competition ends, but no later than May 30, 2026. Metadata for datasets will remain public under the CC BY SA 4.0 license.
Recipients
Data will be shared with the organisers and jury members. Prize winners will be named on the competition website.

11. Disclaimer and Legal Recourse
Leibniz Universität Hannover reserves the right to amend these terms and cancel the competition if necessary.
Legal recourse is excluded.
In case of conflict, the German version of the terms takes precedence.
